About Rebecca & How she works

(FdSC, DipION, mBANT, rCNHC, MSc)

I studied Law and worked in the City of London as a Loss Adjuster before getting married and travelling for work with my husband.

After the birth of our second daughter, we moved to the Cotswolds. In amongst the madness of 2 under 4; I quickly realised that I wasn’t well and was diagnosed with Lupus – a systemic autoimmune disease that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by Lupus can affect many different body systems – joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.

After being exposed to numerous medications that were making my body slow down and feel worse, I took it upon myself to make changes. After attending a weekend lecture on Nutrition, I knew there was more to it and was desperate to heal myself and in the long term, aid others.

I walked away from the life we knew, retrained with the prestigious Institute for Optimum Nutrition; completing the 4-year Diploma in Nutritional Therapy. Training in functional medicine principles; a science based approach that determines the underlying causes of health problems and implements programmes to support and improve health and wellbeing. I undertook Nutrition MSc at KCL and continue to undertake postgraduate training in on a regular basis to ensure that my knowledge is in keeping with relevant scientific requirements within Nutrition and my specialisms.

I am a Master Practitioner  in Eating Disorders, Obesity & Mental Health; obtained through The National Centre For Eating Disorders. A programme approved by the British Psychological Society Learning Centre and by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

I am a Registered Nutritional Therapist & Eating Disorder specialist – a member of The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT) and The Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority, the regulatory body that assures standards of practice all areas of healthcare.

I endeavour to work within a multi disciplinary team; that includes Doctors and Psychiatrists, to enable the management of the unique nutritional, medical and psychiatric complications of eating disorders.

This integrative approach is offered for people of all ages and genders, who struggle with food issues including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, compulsive eating, other specified feeding or eating disorders (OSFED), avoidant/restrictive food intake disorders (ARFID) and related mental health and body image issues.

Recovery journeys are different for each client and so, adaptation of programmes are needed in order to fit age, current physical, mental health concerns and treatment needs.

I know, from experience, that eating disorders rarely occur without other health conditions. From diabetes or gastrointestinal problems, to anxiety, depression or substance use disorder. My education, knowledge and support allows me to support clients with varying biochemical and physical requirements.

One essential element of this care is communication from both practitioner and client.

The client must be able to communicate, typically via email, regarding booking in sessions, for example, or if they have questions/concerns/struggles.

This is very difficult for many but all clients are reminded that we are working as a team; together. There are no wrong questions but I can only do my job, where communication is working. The more information I have, the better I can aid and support.

I ask the same of the families involved. Do email. Do book in to discuss support. Your input is vital throughout this process.

No one ever truly feels ready to change and so the thought of Recovery can bring about resilience, anger and fear. Support from myself, the external team (where needed) and from home will be vital.

Since the Covid lockdowns, all support is offered via Zoom, with great success.

Virtual treatment via zoom is offered within a secure video environment, allowing individuals to receive the care in the setting that is best for them (non clinical).

WORK…

In 2019, I joined Invivo Healthcare. As part of the Clinical Education team, I support clinicians decipher microbiome results for their patients; advising on best courses of action where suitable.

The aim: restoring human health and ecology.

Invivo provides diagnostic testing services that analyse the microbiome, the host-immune status and genomic data. As we understand more about the interdependent role of the human microbiome, genetics, the environment, nutrition and human health, we hope to steer patients back towards long-term wellness, and foster a deeper relationship with the ecosystems in which they live.’

In 2021, I joined the renowned Health Matters Group as part of their Multi disciplinary team; supporting those with Eating disorders; disordered eating, Obesity and mental health concerns.
